The words we speak to our wives help create the relational climate of our marriages. A husband cannot control his wife's character, but he is responsible for what he contributes to their relationship. Speak grace. Build up. Nourish and cherish. Your wife is not the enemy. She is your bride.
God has entrusted us with words, and Scripture gives those words a purpose. They are to tell the truth, give grace, build people up, restore relationships, protect reputations, communicate gratitude, and express love. The Stewardship of Words explores how husbands and wives, parents and children, friends, and leaders can learn to love one another through what they say—and what they refuse to say.
Marriage can become surprisingly inward-looking. One simple way to grow closer is to turn outward together—serving someone else side by side. Shared service gets us outside ourselves, lets us see Christ at work in one another, and shows our children that love and ministry are personal, not merely programmed.
We often act as though we must choose between speaking truth and speaking in love. God never gave us that choice. Truth without love can become a weapon, while love without truth can become avoidance. Christian maturity requires the WHAT and the HOW—bringing what is true with humility, mercy, gentleness, self-awareness, and genuine love for the person receiving it.
Holding your wife’s hand may seem like a little thing, but little expressions of affection repeated consistently can become big things in a marriage. Walk beside her, reach for her hand, and let her—and your children—see that you still genuinely enjoy being together.
Biblical leadership is not merely about what leaders teach, decide, or accomplish. Scripture calls those entrusted with people to lead with humility, gentleness, courage, self-control, gracious speech, sacrificial love, and the character of Christ.
