Love always introduces risk because people can disappoint, misunderstand, reject, wound, or leave us. The alternative is not safety but isolation. Leadership, marriage, friendship, mentoring, and ministry all require some willingness to be affected by another person. A protected heart may hurt less, but it also loves less.
